Cloud server backups

Cloud server backups

Every Kapsule Cloud Server includes daily off-site backups stored in encrypted storage and kept for 30 days.

What's backed up

The backup includes:

  • Website files, your application code and uploads
  • Databases, all databases on the server
  • Server configuration, system and service configs
  • Cron jobs and system state, scheduled tasks and OS state
  • Mail, email data (if mail is configured on the server)

You can view what's in a backup by expanding the "What's in your backup" section in the Backups card.

Backup schedule

Backups run daily automatically. The Backups card shows: "Daily off-site backups to encrypted storage, kept for 30 days."

Triggering a manual backup

To take a backup immediately outside the daily schedule:

  1. Open your server in Cloud Servers
  2. Find the Backups card
  3. Click Back up now

Backup status

The Backups card shows the status of your most recent backup:

StatusMeaning
Backed upLast backup completed successfully
RunningBackup in progress
FailedLast backup failed, retrying on next schedule

If the latest backup failed, a warning appears: "The most recent backup failed. We'll keep retrying on the daily schedule. Check disk space, or contact support if this persists."

Restoring from a backup

  1. Find the backup you want to restore in the Backups card
  2. Click Restore
  3. Confirm the restore, the server will apply the backup

Restoring replaces current server state. All changes made since the backup was taken will be lost. If you're unsure, take a manual snapshot first.
