Transferring your domain to another registrar

Transferring your domain to another registrar

You can move your domain from Kapsule to any other registrar at any time. Kapsule will never withhold your auth code.

Before you start

  1. Disable registrar lock, the lock prevents outbound transfers by design. Go to your domain's Security tab (or Settings tab) and turn off the Registrar Lock toggle. The description reads: "Locked against transfers to another registrar (recommended). Unlock before you transfer out."

  2. Ensure auto-renew won't cause issues, if your domain expires during the transfer, the transfer may fail. Check the expiry date on your domain's Overview tab.

Getting your auth code

  1. Go to Domains and open the domain you want to transfer
  2. Click the Settings tab
  3. Find the Transfer Out section
  4. Click Get Auth Code
  5. The auth code is emailed to your account's billing email address
  6. Confirmation message: "Auth code emailed to {your email}. Check your inbox."

Completing the transfer at your new registrar

  1. Log in to your new registrar and initiate a domain transfer
  2. Enter the auth code when prompted
  3. Approve any confirmation emails from your current or new registrar

Transfer timelines

  • Most TLDs (.com, .net, .org, etc.), 5–7 days
  • .nz domains (.co.nz, .nz, etc.), same day, typically within hours

During the transfer, your DNS continues to resolve normally. Your domain stays functional throughout.

After the transfer

Once the transfer completes, the domain leaves Kapsule's management. DNS records you set up in KPanel will no longer be active, configure DNS at your new registrar before or immediately after the transfer to avoid downtime.

The domain entry remains visible in KPanel until removed. To clean it up: go to Settings → Remove from KPanel. This does not affect the domain registration itself.
