Email Aliases
Email Aliases
An email alias is an additional address that delivers mail into an existing mailbox. For example, you might have one mailbox for jane@yourdomain.com but also want to receive mail sent to support@yourdomain.com and hello@yourdomain.com in the same inbox. Aliases make this possible without creating separate accounts.
Aliases vs Forwarding
| Feature | Alias | Forward |
|---|---|---|
| Delivers to a Kapsule mailbox | Yes | No |
| Keeps mail on Kapsule servers | Yes | Optional |
| Requires a separate login | No | No |
| Can send from the alias address | Yes (with client config) | No |
Use aliases when you want everything in one Kapsule mailbox. Use forwarding when you want mail delivered to an external provider.
Adding an Alias in KPanel
- Log in to KPanel at kpanel.kapsulecloud.com
- Go to Mailboxes and open the mailbox you want to add an alias to
- Click the Aliases tab
- Click Add Alias
- Enter the alias address (for example,
support@yourdomain.com) - Click Save
The alias is active immediately.
Aliases must be on the same domain as the parent mailbox. To receive mail from a different domain, use email forwarding instead.
Common Use Cases
- Role addresses:
info@,hello@,support@,sales@all delivered to one inbox - Name variations:
firstname@andfirstname.lastname@pointing to the same account - Catch-all addresses: Receive mail sent to any address at your domain
Setting Up a Catch-All
A catch-all address receives any email sent to your domain that does not match an existing mailbox or alias. This prevents legitimate messages from bouncing.
- Go to Mailboxes in KPanel
- Click Catch-All Settings for your domain
- Select the mailbox to receive unmatched email
- Click Save
Catch-all addresses tend to receive a high volume of spam, since spammers often guess random addresses at known domains. Monitor the inbox regularly or use an alias for specific addresses instead.
Removing an Alias
- Open the mailbox in KPanel
- Go to the Aliases tab
- Click Delete next to the alias you want to remove
